“A wondrously mad and moving work” - Variety

The Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center presents The Clean House by Sarah Ruhl, a visionary romantic comedy tinged with fantasy and passion. Lane’s life is in chaos: her maid, obsessed with her quest for the “perfect joke,” is not cleaning the house. On the other hand, Lane’s sister is obsessed with cleaning. It seems like a match made in heaven until the three women discover that Lane’s husband is having an affair. Comic chaos ensues when all the roles are thrown into confusion: a maid who won’t clean; a doctor who needs healing; laughter that kills; love born out of hate; people who break up only to grow closer together. Can going to the ends of the world for a grand romantic gesture bring redemption?  Will you find your soul mate out there, even in the most unlikely of places? Is it possible to tell the funniest joke in the world? Playwright Sarah Ruhl’s poetry, along with a touch of madness, earned her a Pulitzer nomination and makes The Clean House a play you will never forget. See what the New York Times calls “one of the finest and funniest new plays you’re likely to see” and Variety says it is a “wondrously mad and moving work.”
