About Betsy Cooprider-Bernstein

Betsy was among the first to receive an M.F.A. in Lighting Design from I.U. in 1981. After tenure as Associate Professor of Design at Northern Illinois University, Betsy moved to Indianapolis in 1992 when her husband was hired by Starlight Musicals. She has designed over 100 productions locally including the Indianapolis Opera, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Ballet Theatre, Starlight Musicals, Indianapolis Civic Theatre, Anderson University, and Franklin College. Betsy returned to Bloomington to work with Cardinal Stage, lighting King Charles III (2017) and Brighton Beach Memoirs (2015). Early next year, she will light Morning After Grace, her 41st production with the Indiana Repertory Theatre. Betsy also owns and manages ALAN’S Catered Events with her husband, Chef Alan Bernstein; they have created delicious fare for a wide array of events in the Indianapolis area since 1993. Betsy is a member of United Scenic Artists, Local 829.
