Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance

Alyssa Athens is pursuing a Contemporary Dance B.F.A. Prior to Indiana University she trained with Studio G Performing Arts Center in forms such as ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, tap and musical theatre. In her time with the studio, she served as a teacher as well as a student. Additionally, she has showcased her choreography in recitals and performed in countless dance competitions around the country.

In her time at IU Alyssa has performed in various Contemporary Dance Department performances such as the Junior Choreographic Showcase in 2016 and 2017, the Senior Choreographic Showcase in 2017 and 2018, Bodies of Light in 2018, and Making Spaces in 2019. For the year of 2020 she will be performing in Shifting Landscapes and choreographing in the Senior Choreographic Showcase. With Contemporary Dance Department shows she has been able to dance in pieces by Bill T. Jones, Dr. Rennie Harris, Stephanie Pizzo, Stafford C. Berry, Elizabeth Shea, and Stephanie Nugent. She also choreographed this past year in 2018 Hatched Junior Choreographic Showcase. Along with her participation within student-run dance organizations such as University Players’ Slip: An Annual Dance Collaboration and InMotion Dance Company.

Currently Alyssa plans to dance professionally after graduation and work as a freelance artist. She is looking forward to continuing her passion and furthering herself as an artist.
