Irene is originally from Chongqing, China. She started to direct in high school. She use to be the director of New Year Gala and Singing Competition in her high school. She also directed many famous plays in China, including Snow in Midsummer, To Live, Thunderstorm, and Teahouse. She is a founder of the IU Heping Chinese Theatre Club. Her directing experience in the Theatre Department includes independent projects The Insanity, Secret Love In Peach Blossom, Romeo and Juliet.
She directed The Merchant of Venice to join Edinburgh International Festival.
