Appointed to IU in 1969

Leon Brauner has designed costumes for productions at Indiana University and the Universities of California, Texas, Colorado and Utah State University. In addition, he has designed costumes for regional theatres in California, Arizona, Utah and Indiana. Professor Brauner served as Chairperson of the Department of Theatre and Drama at Indiana University from 1996 until his retirement in July of 2002. He has served the United States Institute for Theatre Technology as Vice-president in charge of programming, commissions and conferences, and President.

He has published articles on theatre design and costume crafts in Theatre Design and Technology and Theatre Crafts International, and has designs in several textbooks and magazine articles. He has had designs exhibited in the Prague Quadrennial and international exhibits in Yugoslavia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. He is currently Secretary of the Executive Committee of the International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Technicians and Architects (OISTAT).
