The Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance offers high school students a four-week internship in professional theatre production during its Indiana University Summer Theatre (IUST) season.
Local high school students work alongside professionals and graduate students, learning and practicing production skills. They gain first-rate training in various elements of the theatre arts—working backstage, in the scenic studios, rehearsal halls, and in the theatre offices.
The internship program runs for four weeks. Hours the first week are from 1pm – 5pm. The next three weeks involve working on a production with evening hours and some matinee dates.
This internship offers high school students a diverse selection of job opportunities, including:
- Painting scenery in our scenic studio
- Working back stage with the musical crew on light and sound board operations, on follow spots, or with the wardrobe crew
- Preparing and running rehearsals with the company manager and stage management staff
- Working with audience development in promotions, patron relations, and front-of-house activities
To apply, submit an email listing your particular area of interest, keeping in mind that internships cover many areas of theatre production. Let us know your reason for seeking the internship, and include mention of any previous theatre experience.
Students must be at least 15 years of age. Please include references, including contact email addresses. Interns will be paid a stipend of $100 per week.
Email complete application to Production Manager Trish Hausmann, pjhausma@indiana.edu. Interviews will take place in the spring.
