Marion Michael began her career as a professional actress and performed over 140 roles at various theatres in the East and Midwest. She joined the Indiana University faculty in 1975 and during her years at IU Professor Michael developed the Voice and Speech curriculum for the Department of Theatre and Drama. She served as voice, speech, and dialects coach for more than 300 university and professional theater productions.
Throughout her career she has been active at the national level and was one of a handful of women who created the Women’s Program in the American Theatre Association. In addition to being cited as a "Distinguished Woman" by the ATA, Marion Michael received a citation from the Indiana Theatre Association for her "outstanding achievement in Indiana college and university theatre," and a commendation by the Indiana general assembly for her "years of outstanding service at Indiana University." She retired in 1996.
