About Kate Vermillion Lyons

Kate is originally from Bloomington, Indiana, and an alumna of the IU Contemporary Dance Program. Her professional career led her to Boulder, Colorado where she was a company member and instructor for 3rd Law Dance/Theater for three seasons, a company member and rehearsal director for Nosilla Dance Project for two seasons, and guest choreographer for Industrial Dance Alliance for one season.
Beyond performance she has been a stage manager at IU for Moving Memory Project in 2019, a lighting and costume consultant for Nosilla Dance Project, an illustrator for 3rd Law Dance/Theater’s promotional media, collaborated in building curricula for dance and music outreach for elementary schools in Colorado, and assisted in reconstructing and setting two of Elizabeth Shea’s works at IU and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance in Israel. Kate has appeared in several local, national, and international dance and music festivals including Denver Convergence Festival, Boulder International Fringe Festival, T2 and Friends Festival, NYC Electroacoustic Music Festival, Italy’s Matera Intermedia Festival, Midwest RADfest, and American Dance Guild Festival.
Kate’s most recent projects include an upcoming February performance with Elizabeth Shea Dance in White Wave’s Solo/Duo Festival, rehearsal directing for Erik Abbott-Main for IUDT’s 2020 Faculty Concert, her performance in Elizabeth Shea’s Ascension at the Eskenazi Museum of Art in November 2019, her collaborative work Wintertraumen with composer Chi Wang of the Jacob’s School in August 2019, and her continued work with IU dance majors.
