Devin May is a Bloomington native, and a senior graduating in May 2018 with a BA in Theatre and Drama, and a Business Foundations Certificate from the Kelley School of Business.
Devin will have worked on 26 productions during his college career by time he graduates, both onstage and behind the scenes. He has performed for IU Mainstage, IU Summer Theatre, Cardinal Stage Company, The Jewish Theatre of Bloomington, Monroe County Civic Theatre, University Players, Boston’s Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, and several independent projects.
In February 2018, he was awarded the grand prize in the National Society of Arts and Letters Bloomington chapter drama competition. However, Devin’s true passion is directing. He will have directed five productions during his time at IU, culminating in an undergraduate thesis production of William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure, set to open on April 5, 2018 on the IU Auditorium loading dock. He was also recognized for his directing work in the Student Directors and Choreographers competition at the regional Kennedy Center American Collegiate Theatre Festival in January 2018, where he placed third against undergraduate and graduate directors from across the Midwest with a production of 140 by Marsha Norman.
Devin has proudly served for two years as president of the Student Advisory Board for the Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance. He is also a four-year member of University Players, IU’s undergraduate theatre company.
After graduation, Devin hopes to continue acting, and plans on continuing his education by pursuing and MFA in Directing. Eventually, he hopes to follow his passion for directing and arts administration by becoming an Artistic Director for a regional theatre company.
