IU opened the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center on the Bloomington campus in January 2002. This beautifully designed building provides state-of-the-art technology and two vital performance spaces. It contains expansive, well-planned workshop areas and spacious directing and acting studios.
The remodeling and renovation of the Theatre Building, adjacent to the Norvelle Center, opened in progressive stages. The final phase of renovation was completed in June 2011, allowing our department to fully connect the Norvelle Center and the remodeled Theatre Building, complete with new classrooms, studios, and offices. The Studio Theatre and the Movement Studio are the centerpieces of this most recent renovation of the facility.
The former Theatre as has since opened as the IU Cinema, a place for film.
