Poonie's Cabaret is back! A quarterly performance series originally curated by Selene Carter in 2002 has again risen in Chicago as an inclusive space valuing improvisation and experimentation, providing opportunities for performers of all genres in an LGBTQ+ welcoming space.
The Chicago Tribune reached out to Selene Carter to ask her more about the inspiration behind Poonie's Cabaret, and what it means for community members.
Newly curated by Ken Gasch and Christopher McCray, they are focusing on bringing back many of the past curators to kick off a new wave. The goal is to create a space for new, emerging, and experimental performers.
