Melaina Muth, from Brookfield Illinois, is a current Senior at Indiana University studying Contemporary Dance. Before coming to IU, she trained at the Joffrey Academy in Chicago and Principle Dance. She also attended the Alvin Ailey Summer Intensive in 2019. She has been dancing for nineteen years and has studied various styles of dance including: hip hop, contemporary, ballet, and jazz. Since coming to IU, Melaina has performed in works by Elizabeth Shea, Baba Stafford C. Berry, Robert Burden, Beatrice Capote, multiple guest artists and other B.F.A. majors. She also arranged music for Robert Burden’s house class and his piece House of Love that premiered at the 2022 New Moves production, and edited music for Rachel Stratton's In Place of Convalescence which premiered in 2023 at the Junior Choreographic Performance: Afterimages. On top of her work within her major, Melaina has also taught, choreographed and performed alongside Di:verse Dance Crew and the Ballroom Dance Club here at IU. Post-graduation she plans on pursuing a career in performance, choreography, and film.
